Spring Break 2017

Thursday- we finished up school, we completed Mystery of History Volume Iand celebrated with Frozen Yogurt at Big Chill.

Friday- On the 4th Friday of the month we go to a local church and help distribute food into boxes and deliver them to home bound locals. Since I hurt my back the week before I decided that lifting, carrying and loading would not be very good, so we stayed home and had our first day of break.  Kids had unlimited screen time and I got to cuddle with Little Man inbetween bouts of playing cars and trains, and started reading This Life I Live by Rory Feek.
Saturday-we all slept in and Peanut had a volleyball game at 1030.  My mom was coming over to help me start painting our kids/guest bathroom.  I pulled everything off the walls, took cabinets and drawers out the night before, so I mostly gathered supplies and had it prepped and ready! Peanut won both games, and then my mom and I headed to Zupas for lunch and Home Depot for paint and wood.  We painted from 2-6, the hubby had the kids all day and I was too tired to cook so we ordered pizza.  Sunday- I love our Sunday mornings.  We try to have a no Sunday electronic rule and we try to make a 'big breakfast', which just means, something besides cereal.  But this Sunday was what usually happens, fighting, raising voices, tension, and then anger.  It was a rough morning for sure.  I volunteer once a month in the 2 year old room first hour.  The girls used to come too, but they love their Sunday School Class so they go to their own classes.  The Hubby came this time.  Then we went to services 2nd hour and my mom met me at the house to continue painting.  We did as much as we could till about 330, then the hubby and I took the kids to their Grandmas for a spring break sleepover.  We were going to go to the hardware store and maybe use a gift certificate for a movie but my back was spasming so bad, I'm sure from all the painting. We also added another frustrating conversation to our hard day, so I was ready to go home and curl up with a book and just rest.  We were tired. So we ate, got our knobs and handles at the hardware store and headed home for the heating pad and some TV. I could not sleep, I finished the book I started on Thursday at 10, by 11 I gave up trying to sleep.  I got up. planned school, blogged, ate a bowl of cereal, watched tv and tried again at 2, got up at 430, 5, 615, and gave up at 630.
Monday- Kids were still at Grandmas so I sealed the cupboards, cleaned, cooked chicken, and always laundry.  Then I ran to Winco and Costco to prepare for our birthday dinner we were hosting at our house for my MIL on Tuesday.  I picked up the kids and we played for a bit before we got swimsuits on and picked up friends and met more at the Y.  We swam for 2 hours and the kids had a blast.
Tuesday- we had a slow morning until I realized I better get the ribs on the Traeger before we go to the $1 theater, cooking them long and slow will be so much better than short and fast, and being rushed which I despise.  I bought 2 packages at Costco, forgetting, again,  that there are 3 racks in one package, not 2 like I always think.  I was able to fit 5 racks and used Famous Dave's Rib Rub on 3 and McCormicks Lemon Pepper on 2- and I cover mine good, front and back and rub it in with my hands. They got rave reviews-smoking them for 5 hours and then another 2 on 200 degrees, they were amazing. After the movies with friends,we prepared the house for Grandma's party and the hubby's sisters and their families coming over.  It was a great evening celebrating a sweet woman we are blessed with.

Wednesday- this was a day I said, we are going nowhere and spending zero money so call your friends and have them dropped off.  My mom and stepdad came over from 9-4 and helped put up the wood paneling in the bathroom and hardware on the cupboards-I can't wait to show off this new look, its so pretty.  That evening we just vegged.
Thursday-the girls have been looking forward to this day for a long time-shopping at the Big Mall! Peanut is getting so good at budgeting her money, JellyBean is picking up on it as well and I would like to thank Claire's for that.  They try to make the buy 3, get 3 deal so great.  Its such a scam!  Jellybean could pay $12 for the 2 items she wanted or find 4 more items and end up paying $25 and have no money left over for other stores.  The cashiers are relentless too "are you sure honey, you get one more thing and then get 3 free?"  NO!  It was pouring buckets here in Idaho so the mall was dead so it was really nice to not have to fight spring break crowds.

Friday we had plans to meet at Grandmas with cousins and paint rocks.

The moms were going to go on a run, but the wind blowing pretty good and no one seemed to be in the mood for it.  My mom and stepdad offered to have the kids for a sleepover so after I dropped them off there I met the Hubby for a low maintenance date night at a local mexican restaurant and we laughed and stuffed our faces.  It was great.  We came home and I sealed the bathroom again after some touch up paint, we vegged and watched some tv.  We are just tired alot.  And the weather was too bad for a walk, plus he signed up for a basketball tournament the next day, starting at 8 am, it was nice to be in bed so early.
Saturday-The hubby left for his tournament, the kids came home and before we left to go watch him play Jellybean scratched her eye pretty bad.  After watching one game and eating lunch with the hubby I took Little Man with Jellybean and myself to get her eye checked out at a local Walmart Vision Center-she never complains too much about pain so after lots of crying after lots of time had passed we knew something was up.  Peanut stayed to cheer the Hubby on.  As a mom I felt bad for Jellybean and as a wife I was so frustrated-the one time we get to go and support the hubby, I am distracted by Jellybeans pain and Little Man's antics.  Oi.  Rough day.  She did have a bad scratch on her cornea, we got antibiotic drops and headed home to make an eye patch.  The weather was beautiful so I decided to literally run to Walgreens to pick up her prescription, its only a 4 mile trip there and back and it pushed me hard since the way back is a gradually all up hill.  I was out of my funk and in a great mood, so I took Little Man outside with me to plant spinach to grow indoors and potted the basil and cilantro plant we purchased the day before.
Sunday-  I knew I needed to go see Nanny {my grandma} because it had been 2 months since I had seen her.  Her facility was under quarantine because of the flu. We attended Sunday School and Church, came home for lunch, I prepped a little for school and headed out the door to grab some school supplies and go see Nanny. It was so great to see her.  We cried when we hugged, I just miss her so much.  I planned a little more and we got the kids to bed and crashed ourselves.
Before the break I had planned our next 6 weeks of school so I am excited to get back to a schedule and I also came up with a monthly menu, all Sundays and one other day a week we will have a leftover/cereal night, Mondays are crazy with sports so we alternate spaghetti/taco night and every Friday night is homemade Pizza, and Saturdays are for grilling.  Looking forward to more organized evenings.
It was a great springbreak, I am thankful for my parents helping me with our bathroom, the hubby working so hard and having fun with all of us when he got home.  I am thankful for all the fun and laughs with my kids' friends and the fun I had with my kids.  My goal was to not plan a thing about school until the Sunday before we started back up and to not scroll Instagram or Facebook....I did pop on Facebook to ask a general question.  My biggest eye opener was how much I aimlessly scroll social media and that after awhile it can make me feel like I need to do more, be more, and I am over it.
I am also excited that I started runing again.  I ran 11 miles over the break!  I started a bullet journal and one entry is my 2017 Running Log with a goal of 100 miles.  It so nice to see it on paper even though I have a watch that keeps tracks of it.  There is something about pen and paper that I will always love.  Now, time to get ready for reality- Co Op starts back up and so does Gray Academy.
